HS: Winter SIMA FAB 50 rankings, Feb. 3
The late start of winter-playing Texas public schools creates an interesting twist to the SIMA FAB 50 rankings.
Often in January, several undefeated Texas teams with few matches played but full of high expections have climbed artifically high in the rankings. By the first week of February, reality starts to kick in.
While Texas teams occupied six of the top eight spots in last week's SIMA FAB 50 boys rankings, that number was reduced to four to this week; and the California programs are lining up for their crack at Top 10 rankings. In fact, seven of the current top 14 boys teams hail from California, and the Golden State is responsible for 20 of the SIMA FAB 50 teams this week.
The key Top 10 moves include Colleyville Heritage (Colleyville, Texas), McKinney Boyd (McKinney, Texas) and Coppell (Coppell, Texas) moving up into the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 spots, respectively, with California teams taking seven of the team eight spots, led by Cathedral (Los Angeles, Calif.) at No. 7.
